Winton Park Sheepmasters was established because we saw the huge potential for shedding sheep breeds in Australia and were deeply impressed with the excellent breed qualities of the Sheepmaster.
The Winton Park Sheepmasters stud flock consists of over 400 stud ewes (and growing), as well as 12 Sheepmaster Parent Stud rams.
Our main stud focus points are:
Clean Shedding Skin
Lambing Ease
Structure and Feet
Fertility
Lamb Growth Rate and Finishing Ability
Both stud and commercial ewes are joined and lamb naturally: in the paddock. This is an important part of our breeding / management philosophy, as we believe our sheep should be able to thrive and reproduce under everyday commercial paddock conditions.
As you would expect, Winton Park Sheepmasters are NSW Brucellosis accredited: Certificate no. 82793.
In addition to our Sheepmaster stud flock, we run a commercial shedding flock, consisting of Sheepmaster X, Dorper and Australian White ewes, which are joined to Sheepmaster stud rams. The best of the ewe progeny is retained for replacement purposes with the remainder of the ewe progeny and the male progeny is sold as prime lambs. This is an important part of our operation, as it provides us with the opportunity to see the results of using Sheepmaster sires over other shedding breeds first hand!
Both our stud and commercial ewes are joined and lamb naturally: in the paddock. This is an important part of our breeding / management philosophy, as we believe our stud sheep should be able to thrive and reproduce under everyday commercial paddock conditions. Sheepmasters are easy to handle, have a ultra clean shedding silky skin, highly fertile, non-seasonal joiners. Our rams have sound confirmation and great feet. They have shown an excellent ability to quickly clean up any “woolly shedders” in our commercial herd. We do not shear, crutch, dip, foot pair or tail dock; there is simply no need. Keen to work Winton Park Sheepmaster rams are a highly productive, no-fuss addition to any self-replacing shedding flock.
We consider ourselves to be custodians of our property and it is our responsibility to continuously strive to improve our soils, pastures and landscape, by increasing soil organic matter and carbon content. We do this by taking a whole farm regenerative approach, where everything is aimed at nurturing and supporting healthy soil function first, which in turn nourishes our plants and animals: maximising their health, immune systems, genetic potential and meat nutrient density.
Conservation is an important part of our philosophy and we are proud to have almost 400 acres of our beautiful property "Coraki" (pronounced Koh-Rah-Kai) protected for the future, under a voluntary conservation agreement with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust of NSW. This area has been identified as rare remaining riverine Grey Gum woodlands, which provide a unique habitat for a complex eco-system of native flora and fauna.
Winton Park Sheepmasters always has an excellent selection of rams available for sale, aged between 8 and 24 months and priced between $1,500- and $2,000-. We welcome in-person inspections and are happy to chat on the phone any time (warning – we may bore you to death with our enthusiasm for this breed)!!
